Another 1,000 miles down

I’ve now covered five thousand miles since January and I know for sure that this trip was the right move. Yesterday I rode 300 miles, 250 from Amarillo to Santa Fe and another 50 on a local’s tour of Santa Fe with my new friend Ira.
Something happened as I passed from the plains of Texas to the desert of New Mexico, as I crossed from central to mountain time, as the first snow-covered mountains appeared on the horizon. I’m not sure how to explain it but it felt like a homecoming to be back in the West.
Welcome home! We all know you’re a midwestern boy at heart, for all that you were accidentally born in Florida!
Pardon the pontification….Santa Fe has always been a place of “mystic” wonderment and joy. Georgia O’Keefe’s work was a major influence on my love of art and career in art history. My own heart landed squarely in the mountain west with the first NOLS course in Wyoming at 16, college and skiing in Durango and Salt Lake….and for the past 12 years the fun we’ve all had at the cabin in Silverthorne….so no explanation needed about that feeling of coming “home”! Maybe both of us were accidentally born in Florida??
Thanks again for letting me (and all of us!) share your adventures vicariously through your journey’s notes and photos… have been awaiting your arrival in Santa Fe with great anticipation…can’t wait to see some more pics!!! Love, su madre
