Free to Ride

Kim, my stepmom, got the coolest cake for my Send Off Party. I was amazed having never seen a cake in the shape of the US, especially one with a red motorcycle.

I’ve collected all of the photos from my last few weeks preparing for my trip. They are all in the collection below.

Mapping returns

I switched the map on the Main page from my tracking device (which is MIA) to my Blackberry’s waypoints. These won’t appear as often but will give you more information about what’s going on. Plus I can create waypoints for places that don’t have cell reception (like Davant) where the tracking device wouldn’t work (after I get a connection of course).

Roadside Americana
This is a little bit of a scavenger hunt. I hope you find it worth while.

Day one

My first day went well, even though I got a later than desired start. Everything was pushed together at the end. I’m completely moved out of Villa Riva and I returned the keys to my grandparents. Moving alone was hectic and combined with leaving for ~90 days, I’m glad I made it out at all. It was certainly harder than I expected to leave my family and very close friends; I had to hold back tears because blurry vision can be very dangerous. Plus there’s the usual breaking-in bits, like the bolt holding the throttlemeister almost coming out (it’s now fixed) and the tracking device having a “DNS lookup error” (and now can’t find it). On the whole, I made it out the day I planned and only forgot a few small things.

Right now, I’m about an hour outside Savanah on Rut and Freida’s plantation. They have a beautiful house set on a very long oak lined driveway. Behind the house are several smaller buildings including the one I’m in, the Doghouse. Since it was dark when I arrived (and later than I had hoped), I thought I was in trouble and thus “in the doghouse.” But as it turns out, this is a freestanding house of its own where their guests stay when they come to hunt on the property. It just happens to be near the kennel, hence the name.
